Food Energetics

Traditional Chinese Medicine Food Therapy is very detailed and complex. There are many books that offer more complete explanations.

Every food can influence the way the body functions, either positively or negatively.

Food Energetics is based on the centuries’ old Chinese theories of balancing the body’s underlying disharmony to support and improve overall health. Based on Chinese theory, health issues are the result of the body being out of balance in some way.  By being aware of the energetics of the foods your dog eats, you can feed the right foods to help bring balance to your dog’s body.

Most foods fall into broad categories.  The effects they have on the body tend to be “warming/hot”, “cooling/cold” or “neutral”.

Dogs with arthritis, or that need joint support, tend to do better with “warming” or “neutral” foods.  Dogs who give off “heat” (through allergies, hot spots, ear infections, etc.) or high arousal dogs, tend to do better with “cooling” or “neutral” foods to balance some of the heat.  Dogs who are well-balanced normally do well with all of types of foods.**

= Warming/Hot food - can benefit dogs with joint issues, incontinence, asthma, chronic diarrhea, exercise intolerance, general weakness, poor appetite.

= Cooling/Cold food - can benefit dogs with hot spots, rashes, UTIs, ear discharge, extremely hyper/restlessness, obesity, loose stool.

= Neutral food - does not have a warming nor cooling effect on the body.  Can benefit dogs with weepy lesions (no heat), tumors, dry flaky coat or cracked paw pads, anemia.
